Role-play Guidelines

Part of what makes Immortal Sojourns special is our mixture of conversation and creative interaction. Original events like VCU as well as special events held around the year, allows members to role-play and interact with the Immortals on the board.

To those who are familiar with the rules of role-play, many of the following tips and guidelines will be old hat. To those who are new to the realm of role-play, especially role-playing at Immortal Sojourns, this guide will help you avoid some common mistakes that new members make. If ever you have a question, feel free to as a moderator or the Administrators of the forum. They are always willing to help.

1. Know the difference between mortals and immortals.
Anne Rice Immortals can:

Mortals do not have these abilities. So, knowing what Santiago is thinking or dangling Lestat by his ankles over the balcony against his will, while tempting, is not possible. (Unless he allows it and well, we all know that Lestat is a bit unconventional at times…)

The immortals have a great sense of humor and most of the time are willing to have fun and play along but you need to ask them first if it is okay before going ahead and doing so or you might be unpleasantly surprised at their reaction to your actions.

2. Mortals should act like mortals.
This means that you cannot be a witch with magical powers or mortal who can see into the future ect… Unless you can profess that your talent is singing, dancing, tying a cherry stem with your tongue…the answer is no.

note: An administrator at times might give permission for a member to behave in a manner that is not considered, “normal,” to enhance a story or special event. This is done by the admin and not by the mortal.

3. “God Modding” or “Shot Calling” is not allowed.
“God Modding” by our definition is the ability to do practically anything without limits or boundaries. Obviously, as a mortal you have limitations. Please behave within those limitations unless directed otherwise.

“Shot calling” by our definition is forcing an action on another person. For example, writing something of this nature is shot calling: “I looked at Lestat and he gave me a charming smile and a kiss on the lips.” Unless Lestat himself did those actual things to you in a post, this is unacceptable. Forcing actions on another person without their permission is a big no-no.

4. Please do not destroy property and personal items.
You wouldn’t want an immortal or mortal to come into your home and paint your walls neon green and cut up all of your clothes, right? (Well... maybe some of you might but we all know you guys are kinky) The point again is, before you do, ask if the immortal in question would mind. Most of the time, they are willing to have fun within reason but have the courtesy to ask before hand before doing it.

5. Be fun, be creative, be yourself but do so in a co-operative manner.
We like the creative antics our members come up with and this guide is not meant to discourage it. But, communication and co-operation is the key in having a great time when you’re dealing with role-play and some of our best events have been because the members understood the direction we were trying to take and were able to play along to perfection making it a great event to be involved with. Communicate and co-operate while still having your unique style and you’ll find that we are more than willing to encourage and help you along.
